Though this scheme has been proclaimed as the third dimension of teaching by Govt. of India, with an objective of Personality development of the students along with service to Nation. But in our institution by virtue of health concerns, this is the prime duty of a pharmacist to be a part of health related issues. Activities such as blood donation camp, formation of database of blood donors and community health survey are conducted regularly to aware the society about concerns of health. The main objectives of National Service Scheme (NSS) are :

    i. understand the community in which they work

    ii. understand themselves in relation to their community

    iii. identify the needs and problems of the community and involve them in problem-
         solving

    iv. develop among themselves a sense of social and civic responsibility

    v. utilise their knowledge in finding practical solutions to individual and community
         problems

    vi. develop competence required for group-living and sharing of responsibilities

    vii. gain skills in mobilising community participation

    viii. acquire leadership qualities and democratic attitudes

    ix. develop capacity to meet emergencies and natural disasters and

    x. practise national integration and social harmony
